La brughiera del Drongengoed appartiene a un tipo raro: la 'brughiera atlantica intermedia'. Una bocca piena, ma questo tipo ospita ancora qualche specie diversa rispetto alla tanto cantata 'brughiera porpora' delle Fiandre. Con l'aiuto di fondi europei, nel 2009 lungo la Drongengoedweg sono stati 'scavate' delle strisce, cioè è stato rimosso lo strato superiore del terreno. In questo modo, i semi delle vecchie vegetazioni hanno avuto di nuovo la possibilità di svilupparsi. Un intervento logico per un'area che da 1000 anni oscilla tra bosco e brughiera.
