Die ältesten Teile der Kirche sind der massive quadratische Turm und der nördliche Teil des linken Schiffs. Der Turm erhielt seine spezifische Spitze im Jahr 1815. Das klassizistische Westportal wurde 1838 aus der Abtei Affligem übertragen, von der die Kirche seit der ersten Hälfte des 12. Jahrhunderts abhängig war.
Am 25. Juni 1969 stürzte ein Teil des Gewölbes ein; die Restaurierung wurde 1990 abgeschlossen.
Besonders wertvoll sind die fest eingebauten Möbel wie Beichtstühle und Wangen, die Kanzel, die Orgel, die Glasfenster, die zahlreichen Kunstgegenstände und -schätze, die Verzierungen und Gemälde, die zum Erbe der der Heiligen Maria gewidmeten Kirche gehören.
