Det Stedelige Gymnasium i Leiden er en af de ældste skoler i Nederland. Skolens historie går tilbage til middelalderen. I dag er det også det største uafhængige gymnasium i Nederland med mere end 1.800 elever.
Skolen nævnes første gang i 1323 under navnet schole eller scoele, i et charter fra greve Willem III. Man formoder, at skolen blev grundlagt i den anden halvdel af det 13. århundrede. Efter befrielsen af Leiden i 1574 blev Nicolaus Stochius, en kalvinist, udnævnt til rektor af borgmester Pieter Adriaansz. van der Werff fra Leiden, selvom skolens ledelse var luthersk.
