Il nome Rufferdinge farebbe riferimento a un proprietario terriero longobardo, Rupert o Ruffer. Nel luogo dove oggi si trova ancora un mulino ad acqua, già attorno al 1200 si parlava del 'mulino di Ruffertingen'. L'aspetto attuale del mulino risale principalmente all'ultima parte del XIX secolo. All'epoca, c'era anche una birreria associata al mulino che produceva birra fino al 1924. Il mulino stesso è rimasto attivo fino agli anni '60. Oggi nel mulino ad acqua - con attrezzature per la macinazione intatte - ci sono un Museo del Mulino e un Museo di Storia Locale.
