Kommunen Dötlingen ligger i området af naturparken Wildeshauser Geest. Gennem kommunen flyder Hunte. Større byer inden for kommunen er Aschenstedt, Brettorf, Dötlingen og Neerstedt. Sædet for kommunens forvaltning er Neerstedt.
Kommunen er 10.184 ha stor, hvoraf 2.185 ha er skovareal, 6.642 ha er landbrugsareal, 100 ha er vandareal, 24 ha er ødemark, 725 ha er drifts- og bygningsareal, 425 ha er vej- og stiareal, 76 ha er rekreativt areal og 7 ha er andre arealer.
