Aquileia és una ciutat italiana de la província d'Udine a regió del Friül-Venècia Júlia, dins la comarca de Bassa Friülana. Limita amb els municipis de Fiumicello, Grado , Terzo d'Aquileia i Villa Vicentina.
Aquileia fou fundada pels triumvirs romans Luci Manli Acidí Fulvià, Publi Escipió Nasica i Gai Flamini en un territori no habitat on volien establir-se un grup de gals transalpins, que foren expulsats. Es va constituir en colònia romana i s'hi van establir uns tres mil colons el 181 aC als que es van afegir mil cinc-cents més el 169 aC.
