La torre va ser construïda l'any 1550 per la confraria de Sant Miquel.
Es tracta d'una estructura poderosa amb una forma geomètrica perfecta , una base quadrada i superfícies tallades visibles, sense finestres excepte al costat sud. Té les característiques d'una fortificació construïda a Sciacca en temps de Carles V (segle XVI), quan l' amenaça d'atacs pirates o un desembarcament turc era més gran. La torre probablement va ser construïda amb finalitats d'observació i posteriorment es va utilitzar com a campanar.
Avui també és un mirador privilegiat des del qual es pot gaudir d'una panoràmica de 360 graus de tota la ciutat.
