L'Església de la Misericòrdia va ser construïda al segle XVI, probablement a partir de 1560 i 1562. Va patir diverses reformes fins al que veiem avui.
La façana principal, d'estil renaixentista-florentí, data del 1562. A la façana lateral, sobre el portal, hi ha una rèplica del Grup Escultòric Primitiu de la Visitació del 1660.
A l'interior destaca el monumental retaule daurat de Marceliano de Araújo , construït entre 1735 i 1740, i un llenç del sant patró de José Lopes de 1736.
