Bygningen, der blev bygget ved Belfort i det 15. århundrede, er Lakenhallen. Det var en handelsbygning, hvor det godkendte laken blev tilbudt til salg. Fra det 18. århundrede fungerede bygningen imidlertid som byfængsel. Af den grund blev den lille bygning på sidevæggen af Lakenhallen bygget til. Den blev designet af David 't Kindt og fungerede som indgang til fængslet og som betjentbolig.
