Bag det lille tag på Galgenhusets hus kan man stadig se resterne af den tidligere skamstol. Skamstraffe var enormt in vogue i Middelalderen. De blev primært brugt til at straffe de mindre alvorlige forbrydelser. Forbrydere blev sat til skue, og offentligheden fik mulighed for at kaste ting og råbe af dem. Det var faktisk lidt, hvad vi i dag ville kalde en 'interaktiv straf'. Straffen var kun værdifuld, hvis offentligheden deltog. Derfor blev skamstole og skampæle især opstillet på meget besøgt steder, som markeder eller forlystelsesparker.
