Mellem 1993 og 2006 var Machelen-aan-de-Leie hjemsted for den hollandske forfatter og digter Gerard Reve.
Han ligger begravet på den nye kirkegård i Hoevestraat.
På Georges-Jozef Imschootpladsen blev digtet Credo af Reve indarbejdet i en mindesmur.
Ved siden af ligger atelieret af kunstneren Martin Wallaert. Atelier kan besøges efter aftale.
