Kommune Peine strækker sig omtrent halvdelen af vejen mellem de to niedersächsischen hovedbyer Hannover og Braunschweig. I den sydlige del af kommuneområdet har den andel i de frugtbare agerjorde i Hildesheimer Börde. Cirka nord for motorvej A2 viser udløbere af Sydheide sig allerede i den nordlige del af kommunen. Jordbunden bliver her sandet.
Kommune ligger nord for middelgebirgssvingen allerede i den Nordtyske lavland. Den højeste naturlige hævning er med 132 m over NHN Ballenberg, vest for landsbyen Barbecke i kommunen Lengede, ved den sydlige kommunegrænse til Landkreis Hildesheim og til byen Salzgitter.
