Kvarteret Merkenich omfatter området af de tre Rheindørfer Merkenich, Rheinkassel og Langel samt de vestligt beliggende industri- og erhvervsområder. Her lå blandt andet den lille landsby Feldkassel, som blev helt revet ned i 1970'erne. Dette område grænser op til Fühlinger See.
Sydøst for Rheinkassel ligger Kasselberg, som består af et gæstgiveri, en campingplads og nogle få boliger. Kasselberg ligger foran Rheindeich og bliver allerede ved mindre højvande oversvømmet. Ellers har Merkenich siden for få år siden været godt beskyttet af en dæmnedsættelse og -stabilisering.
