Fængselsanstalten Attendorn blev oprettet i 1968 på dele af området til klosteret Ewig nær Attendorn i Sauerland i Nordrhein-Westfalen. I JVA Attendorn afsones frihedsstraf i åbent og lukket fængsel for mænd.
I 1967 overgik bygningerne fra klosteret Ewig til delstaten Nordrhein-Westfalen, som i 1968 etablerede den første åbne fængselsanstalt i delstaten. Fra 1978 til 1988 blev den nuværende fængselsanstalt opført i forskellige byggeetaper, og den blev officielt indviet den 25. november 1988 med en fejring af JVA Attendorn.
