Sandt måske den mest kendte personlighed i Buldern er "Den gale Bomberg". Hans rigtige navn var Kammerherre og baron Gisbert Freiherr von Romberg. Født i 1839 og død i 1897 på Slot Buldern, opnåede han stor berømmelse i Münsterland gennem sin rustikke livsstil, sine dristige streger og sine kærlighedseventyr. Han blev begravet i den gamle kirke i Buldern, hvor hans grav stadig kan besøges i dag. Navnet "Den gale Bomberg" fik han først i det 20. århundrede gennem den i 1924 udgivne, ligeledes navngivne bestsellerroman af Josef Winckler (1881-1966). Bomberg opnåede verdensomspændende berømmelse og sammenlignes med "Baron von Münchhausen" og "Till Eulenspiegel".
