Da dronning Christina af Sverige ankom til Königstein i oktober 1655, var byen en del af ærkebispedømmet Mainz. Under sin rejse gennem ærkebiskop Johann Philipp von Schönborns territorium, fra Königstein i nordvest til Aub i sydøst, sørgede han for hendes velbefindende. Men prælaten og dronningen mødtes ikke, da hun rejste 'incognito'. I Königstein afholdt Christina sig endda fra en velkomst på ærkebiskoppens slot af hans guvernør. I dag kan ruinerne af det enorme slot på bakken besøges. Tip: Lad din bil stå på Parkplatz Stadtmitte ved Hauptstraße og besøg slottet og den gamle bydel til fods.
