Born ligger på den højre bred af Sauer. Gennem byen løber nationalvejen 10, som forbinder Born i nord med nabobyen Girst og i syd med nabobyen Moersdorf.
Born blev første gang nævnt i dokumenter i 1084 som Burna. I 1317 blev stedet kaldt Bornen, og i 1340 Burne. I middelalderen opstod den såkaldte herredømme Born, som eksisterede helt frem til franskertiden. I 1286 blev en Heinrich von Born nævnt. Familien lod den forgående bygning af Slot Born opføre, men denne blev ødelagt i 1705 ved et angreb fra Duke of Marlborough. I det 16. århundrede blev der også udvundet salt i og omkring Born.
