Fort Thüngen kaldes ofte tre ege (Drie Eikels) på grund af egesymbolerne, der pryder de tre runde tårne. Selvom det mere ligner et renæssancefort, blev dette bastion med sin pilformede grundplan bygget af østrigerne i 1732-1733, og en century senere blev det forstærket af preusserne. Efter nedrivningen af byens befæstninger i 1867 faldt fortet næsten i glemsel. Senere blev man imidlertid opmærksom på den historiske og arkitektoniske værdi. Fortet er nu restaureret og fungerer som museum for militær og national historie, med særlig opmærksomhed på Vaubans bidrag til forstærkningen af Luxembourg by. Fortet er en del af Circuit Vauban, en 4 km lang rund vandretur mellem Kirchberg og den østlige side af den gamle by.
