Hermed er det den mindste bydel i bydelen Rotterdam-Noord. Bydelen afgrænses af Schiekade, Bergweg, Noordsingel, Heer Bokelweg.
Hvor Agniesebuurt nu ligger, lå tidligere polden Oost-Blommersdijk. I dette område mellem Rotte og Rotterdamse Schie stod der i det attende århundrede allerede nogle huse, men i perioden 1850-1940 blev hele polden bygget ud. Agniesebuurt er opkaldt efter den centralt beliggende Agniesestraat. Navnet Agniese stammer fra Agniese, den eneste datter af Dieric Bokel. Hun blev i 1336 gift med Simon van Benthem, derefter med Gherijt van Herlaer. Gennem sit ægteskab gik den største del af hendes fars ejendom til andre slægter.
