I Gement stod vandet i 1629 hele tre meter højt. Konvojer af vogne og kærrer måtte have en befarbar vej. Derfor blev der opkastet jord, som blev holdt sammen med stolper og grene imellem. Hollændere hjalp med dette store arbejde. Da den hollandske dig havde været færdig, var linjen omkring byen ’s-Hertogenbosch helt lukket. Lige efter belejringen af ’s-Hertogenbosch rev Staterne den hollandske dig ned igen. Så blev vandforsyningssystemet genoprettet, og diget kunne ikke bruges imod dem.
