Die wunderbare Gegend ist aussichtsreich und steinreich. Deshalb geht es von der Bonn-Matreier-Hütte zuerst durch viel Geröll Richtung Säulkopf. Will man ihn nicht besteigen, biegt man ab zur Kälberscharte, später passiert man die schärfere Galtenscharte und arbeitet sich Schritt für Schritt immer weiter zum Hoheitsgebiet des Großglockners vor. Der Galtenboden beeindruckt mit bizarren Steinformationen, wer noch einen Gipfel will: Der Steig zur Hohen Achsel ist anspruchsvoll und versichert. Vor der Badener Hütte plätschert ein munterer Bach zur Begrüßung. Die markante Kristallwand oberhalb der Hütte erinnert an die Eiger-Nordwand, manche Bergfexe werden hier schon ihre nächste Herausforderung sehen.
