Die Region um Meldert hat einen typischen Lehmboden, der sehr gut für die Landwirtschaft geeignet ist, obwohl in tiefer gelegenen Teilen der Boden manchmal etwas zu feucht ist. Der Name Meldert ist daher mit seinem Boden und der Vegetation verbunden. Möglicherweise wurde der Name von einer Pflanze, dem Gartenmelde oder milden, abgeleitet, die als Gemüse in der Art von Spinat angebaut wurde. Meldert würde dann bedeuten: Boden mit Meldekraut.
