Der Bauernhof “Ooievaarsnest”, am Rande des wertvollen Abeekvallei, ist laut lokaler Überlieferung der Geburtsort von Pieter Bruegel dem Älteren. Das ursprüngliche Gebäude stammt aus dem 13. Jahrhundert, wurde jedoch 1866 nach einem Brand wieder aufgebaut.
Im 15. Jahrhundert gehörte das “Ooievaarsnest” den Grafen von Hoorn. Ein Baumalle verband den Bauernhof mit einer Wassermühle am Abeek. Diese Wassermühle wurde ins Provinzialmuseum für Freiluftkunst nach Bokrijk umgesetzt.
