Assenede ist bekannt als Muscheldorf - im Zentrum befinden sich einige geschätzte Muschelrestaurants. Das Gütesiegel der Gemeinde, aber immer weniger auf den Straßen sichtbar, ist das Kopfsteinpflaster. Das Kopfsteinpflaster verleiht den Dorfbewohnern auch ihren Spitznamen "Kopfsteinbeißer".
Auf dem Gebiet von Assenede befinden sich einige Gräben des Meetjeslandschen Grabengebiets, darunter die Rote Geul und die Große Geul. Auf dem Marktplatz stehen einige authentische Wohnhäuser.
