Meetkerke ist ein Stadtteil von Zuienkerke, lässt sich aber nicht unbeachtet. Dank einer wunderbaren Maria-Statue erhielt die Unserer Lieben Frau Kirche sogar pilgrimmäßige Züge. Die Legende besagt, dass Blankenbergse Fischer, die die Statue in ihren Netzen entdeckt hatten und das Kleinod mit besten Absichten in eine Kirche brachten, sie am nächsten Morgen erneut am Strand fanden. Nach drei Kirchen und ebenso vielen Versuchen beschlossen die frommen Fischer, die Statue auf den Rücken eines Esels zu binden. Der Esel lief schnurstracks zur Kirche von Meetkerke.
