Auf den kargen Sandböden südlich der Zwinregion liegt die Domäne Ryckevelde, deren Wälder von ANIMAL Bos und Groen verwaltet werden. Dieses Amt der flämischen Gemeinschaft beabsichtigt eine dauerhafte Vereinigung von Erholung, Landschaft, Ökologie und Ökonomie. lm Militärsperrgebiet, das am Wochenende teilweise geöffnet ist, liegt das Heidereservat die Schobbejaks-Höhe.
