Das neoklassizistische Schloss ist Teil einer Schlossanlage, die 1800 erbaut wurde. Das Wort 'Raepen' bezieht sich nicht auf das Knollengewächs, sondern über einen Schreibfehler auf Paepen oder Mönche. Das Schloss liegt in den Lakewäldern. Dieses Waldgebiet war früher schließlich im Besitz der Brügger Ter Duinendabtei.
