Am Schloss Den Brandt, mit schön angelegtem französischem Vorgarten, überqueren wir die Beukenlaan und gehen in den Middelheimpark. Dieser Park ist bekannt für seine beeindruckende Sammlung von Skulpturen nationaler und internationaler Künstler. Alles ist im Freien und kostenlos zugänglich. Die Sammlung wächst weiterhin ständig.
„1950 fand im Park zum ersten Mal eine Ausstellung von Skulpturen statt. Es war so erfolgreich, dass der Gemeinderat beschloss, eine permanente Ausstellung daraus zu machen“, erklärt Alex. „So entstand das Middelheimmuseum. Jetzt findest du dort Meisterwerke von Vic Gentils, Rik Wouters und Panamarenko bis hin zu Erwin Wurm, Auguste Rodin und Ai Weiwei.“
Wenn das Wetter nicht mitspielt, kannst du für eine separate Ausstellung im Braempaviljoen vorbeischauen. Im neueren Sammlungspavillon weiter hinten entdeckst du Stücke aus dem Depot des Middelheimmuseums.
