Die Quelle der Dijle liegt etwa einen Kilometer vom Dorfkern von Houtain-le-Val (an der Grenze zu Hennegau und Wallonisch-Brabant) auf einer Höhe von 145 Metern. Es handelt sich um einen Quellfluss, der neben dem Wasser seiner eigenen Quelle auch das Wasser zahlreicher Nebenflüsse und Bäche aufnimmt. Bevor die Dijle Sint-Agatha-Rode erreicht, hat sie bereits Wasser von der Thyle, der Train und der Orne empfangen. In Sint-Agatha-Rode fließt das Wasser der Laan (auch Lane und Lasne) in die Dijle; in Sint-Joris-Weert geschieht dasselbe mit der Nethen. In Neerijse fließt die IJse in die Dijle und in Oud-Heverlee der Vaalbeek. Dennoch gibt es in diesem Teil des Dijlebeckens nur wenige Überschwemmungen: Im Gegensatz zu Regenflüssen ist die Wasserführung bei Quellflüssen im Laufe des Jahres ziemlich konstant.
