1935 starb hier Astrid, die Königin der Belgier, im Alter von 29 Jahren bei einem Autounfall. Der König verlor die Kontrolle über den Wagen, mit dem das Paar unter dem Namen Renard eine Inkognito-Reise unternahm. Die Königin wurde aus dem Auto geschleudert und gegen einen Baum katapultiert. Sie starb sofort an ihren schweren Kopfverletzungen. Zusammen mit der Monarchin starb auch ihr viertes ungeborenes Kind, während ihre anderen Kinder zu Hause waren. Die Königin wurde mit einem bandagierten Kopf aufgebahrt.
