Büdingen ist eine hessische Mittelstadt am östlichen Rande des Rhein-Main-Gebietes, im südöstlichen Teil des Wetteraukreises. Bis zum Jahr 1972 war sie Kreisstadt des gleichnamigen Landkreises. Büdingen liegt in einem waldreichen Gebiet am Seemenbach, am Übergang der Wetterau zum Vogelsberg. Überregional ist die Stadt durch ihre mittelalterliche Altstadt mit Schloss bekannt, die zu den besterhaltenen Stadtanlagen Europas zählt. Büdingen ist mit 122 km² flächenmäßig die größte Stadt des Landkreises und eine der größten Hessens.
