Baesweiler [mit Dehnungs-e, gesprochen: ˈbaːsˌvaɪlɐ] ist eine mittlere regionsangehörige Stadt in der nordrhein-westfälischen Städteregion Aachen. Kurze Zeit prägte der Bergbau die Stadt und führte zu raschem Bevölkerungsanstieg.
Der Raum wird als Jülicher Börde bezeichnet und liegt in der Kölner Bucht, was eine Bodenzusammensetzung aus Löss begründet. In den Eiszeiten drangen die Gletscher bis in diese Bucht und zermahlten unter sich Gestein, das sie weit aus dem Norden herangeschafft hatten. Nach dem Abschmelzen blieb eine fruchtbare Erdschicht zurück.
