Die Stadt Warendorf ist eine Mittlere kreisangehörige Stadt und die Kreisstadt des Kreises Warendorf. Sie liegt im Regierungsbezirk Münster im Norden Nordrhein-Westfalens. Überregional bekannt ist die Stadt durch die jährlichen Hengstparaden des Nordrhein-Westfälischen Landgestüts.
Warendorf liegt an der Ems im östlichen Münsterland. Dieser Teil der Westfälischen Tieflandsbucht ist von intensiver, allerdings relativ kleinteiliger landwirtschaftlicher Nutzung geprägt; wegen des abwechslungsreichen Bilds, das Äcker, Wiesen, Weiden, kleine Wäldchen und Wallhecken ergeben, spricht man von der „Münsterländer Parklandschaft“.
