Das Ilsetal ist ein wildes und romantisches Tal im Südwesten von Ilsenburg. Die Ilse entspringt in der Nähe des Gipfels des Brockens auf fast 1000 Metern und fließt durch eine bizarre Felslandschaft nach Norden. Die Art und Weise, wie der Weg entlang des kleinen Gebirgsflusses verläuft, ist einer der malerischsten und abwechslungsreichsten Wanderwege im Harz. Er ist nach dem berühmten Dichter Heinrich Heine benannt, der einst entlang der Ilse vom Brocken nach Ilsenburg wanderte.
