Der Yacht-Club Niedersachsen ist ein Segelverein. Die große Masse der Mitglieder ist dem Spaßsegeln verpflichtet, eine kleinere Gruppe nimmt aktiv an Wettfahrten teil. So konnte der YCN bereits mehrere deutsche Meister unter anderem in den Bootsklassen Laser, International Canoe oder Taifun stellen.
Außer dem Freizeitsegeln ist der Yacht-Club Niedersachsen auch auf das Regattasegeln ausgerichtet. Neben der Organisation von vereinsinternen Regatten werden häufig auch große Veranstaltungen wie deutsche Meisterschaften in unterschiedlichen Klassen ausgerichtet.
