Kaldenkirchen ist ein Stadtteil von Nettetal im Kreis Viersen in Nordrhein-Westfalen und liegt direkt an der deutsch-niederländischen Grenze.
Die älteste Urkunde, in der der Ortsname „Caldenkirken“ genannt wird, trägt die Jahreszahl 1206; sie dokumentiert eine Vereinbarung über die künftige Ehe zwischen Graf Gerhard IV. von Geldern mit der brabantischen Herzogstochter Margaretha. Der Name geht wahrscheinlich darauf zurück, dass die Pfarrkirche im Ort zur Zeit der Namensgebung noch „kalt“, also nicht fertiggestellt war.
