Wohl die bekannteste Bulderner Persönlichkeit ist "Der tolle Bomberg". Sein eigentlicher Name war Kammerherr und Baron Gisbert Freiherr von Romberg. Geboren 1839 und gestorben 1897 auf Schloß Buldern, gelangte er durch seinen derben Lebenswandel, seine tollkühnen Streiche und seine Liebesabenteuer grosse Berühmheit im Münsterland. Beigesetzt wurde er in der alten Kirche zu Buldern, wo sein Grab auch heute noch besichtigt werden kann. Den Namen "Der tolle Bomberg" erhielt er erst im 20. Jahrhundert durch den im Jahre 1924 erschienen, gleichnamigen Beststellerroman von Josef Winckler (1881-1966). Bomberg erlangte weltweite Bekanntheit und wird mit dem "Baron von Münchhausen" und "Till Eulenspiegel" auf eine Stufe gestellt.
