Ein guter Ausgangpunkt zum Starten ist das Städtische Museum Schloss Salder. Dort gibt es reichlich kostenfreie Parkplätze. Die Route führt in Richtung Watenstedt und auf der Brücke der Industriestraße gibt es einen guten Einblick in die Stahlwerke der Salzgitter AG. (Werksbesichtigung unter www.tourismus-salzgitter.de)
Richtung Beddingen geht es vorbei an MAN und Alstom, der Salzgitter-AG und weiter zum VW-Werk. Ein Abstecher führt zur Schleuse Üfingen und weiter geht die Route an Schacht Konrad vorbei.
