Der Barrikadenviadukt befindet sich auf der Autobahn A89, die die Verbindung zwischen Clermont-Ferrand und Bordeaux gewährleistet. Diese Autobahn, deren Auftraggeber die ASF ist, ist die erste große transeuropäische Autobahnquerung.
Er liegt im ersten Abschnitt von 40 km zwischen Ussel West und Le Sancy, der parallel zur RN 89 verläuft. Er ermöglicht die Überquerung des Baches Barrikade, der in der Nähe von Merlines liegt. Dieser Viadukt befindet sich in einem Gebiet von ökologischem, faunistischem und floristischem Interesse der Kategorie II.
