Das Reichsland Elsaß-Lothringen war ein aus Teilen der alten Landschaften Elsass und Lothringen gebildetes Verwaltungsgebiet des Deutschen Reiches von 1871 bis 1918. Anders als die Bundesstaaten unterstand das Reichsland unmittelbar dem Deutschen Kaiser.
Die heutigen Regionen Elsass und Lothringen gehörten seit dem Vertrag von Meerssen im Jahr 870 zum Ostfränkischen Reich . Wie überall bestanden auch hier verschiedene reichsstädtische, geistliche und reichsständische Territorien.
