Dieser robuste Wehrturm wurde 1520 von den Mönchen der Abtei Lérins (auf der Insel Saint-Honorat in der Nähe von Cannes) erbaut .
Sie besaßen damals ausgedehnte Ländereien in der Region und wollten ihre Interessen vor Piraten und anderen feindlichen Mächten schützen. Der Turm diente als Küstenverteidigung gegen Angriffe der Barbaresken-Piraten, die im 16. Jahrhundert regelmäßig die Küste Südfrankreichs überfielen.
Heute beherbergt der Tour Carrée ein Museum für lokale Geschichte und Folklore mit Dauerausstellungen zu lokalen Traditionen, der Fischerei und der Stadt selbst.
Von der Turmplattform bietet sich ein herrlicher Panoramablick auf den Hafen, die Stadt und den Golf von Saint-Tropez.
