Ongar ist eine Gemeinde im Epping Forest District in Essex, England. Neben der Stadt Chipping Ongar umfasst sie auch Greensted, Greensted Green, Marden Ash und Shelley. Der Gemeinderat der Gemeinde ist der Ongar Town Council. Etwa 21 Meilen nordöstlich von London gelegen, ist es eine teilweise entwickelte Gemeinde mit großen Flächen ungenutztem Land.
Der Name "Ongar" bedeutet "Grünland". Die Gemeinde wurde 1965 als Fusion der Zivilgemeinden Chipping Ongar, Greenstead und Shelley im Epping und Ongar Rural District gegründet. Im Jahr 1974 wurde die Gemeinde Teil des Epping Forest District.
