Der Brügger Gelehrte und Erfinder Simon Stevin führte seine berühmten Fallversuche im 16. Jahrhundert am Turm von Delft durch. Bereits in der griechischen Zeit war Aristoteles davon überzeugt, dass schwerere Kugeln schneller fallen als leichtere. Simon Stevin zeigte mit seinen Versuchen, dass dies nicht der Fall war. Er ließ zwei Bleikugeln aus 10 m Höhe fallen, von denen eine 10-mal mehr wog als die zweite. Sie trafen gleichzeitig den Boden. Dieses Experiment wurde von Galilei etwas später am berühmten Turm von Pisa durchgeführt. Galilei wurde dadurch berühmt. Wenige wissen, dass es zuvor bereits von Simon Stevin gemacht wurde.
