Aalten ist ein Esdorf und die größte Gemeinde der gleichnamigen Gemeinde im Osten der niederländischen Provinz Gelderland, die an der deutschen Grenze liegt. Am 1. Januar 2011 hatte das Dorf Aalten insgesamt 12.935 Einwohner. Aalten liegt im östlichen Teil der Niederlande in der Provinz Gelderland in der Achterhoek, ungefähr in der Mitte der Nord-Süd-Linie Lichtenvoorde - Bocholt (D) und in der Mitte der West-Ost-Linie Varsseveld - Winterswijk.
