In der Eiszeit vor etwa 200.000 Jahren entstand das Veluwemassiv. Die Eismassen aus dem Norden drückten den Boden zu hohen Moränen, darunter die von Veluwe. In einer späteren Eiszeit reichte das Eis nicht bis ins heutige Holland, aber auf der Moräne lag eine große Menge Schnee. Als es wärmer wurde, sorgte das schmelzende Schneewasser für flache sogenannte 'Schneeschmelzwassertäler' und so entstand auch das Wenumse Bachtal.
