Der ehemalige Bahnhof in Axel lag 57,5 km vom Gleis entfernt und war der 17. Haltepunkt auf der Linie von Mechelen nach Terneuzen (MT). Das Bahnhofsgebäude (1871-1968) diente überwiegend als Wohnhaus mit einigen Räumen für den Bahndienst. 1930 wurde eine dritte Etage aufgesetzt. Es gab einen öffentlichen Lade- und Löschplatz und es waren mehrere Gleise (9) und Weichen vorhanden. Die Zuckerrübensaison, die verschiedenen Kartoffelhändler entlang der Gleise und der Anschluss an das Gaswerk in der Buitenweg sorgten für viel Betrieb. Zwischen dem Bahnhof und der Emmastraat kreuzte das Bahngleis die Straßenbahntrasse und war unter anderem mit Barrietröhren gesichert. Dies war einer der beiden Übergänge (Kreuzungen) von Zug und Straßenbahn in Zeeuws Vlaanderen.
