Die Umgebung von Steenwijkerwold zeichnet sich durch alte Hecken aus, die früher als natürliche Abgrenzung des Landes dienten. Die Route führt durch den Nationalpark De Weerribben mit seinen vielen Gräben und über das Wasserdorf Giethoorn zur Festungsstadt Steenwijk.
