Die Freie Stadt Danzig – die Städte Danzig, Zoppot, Praust, Tiegenhof und Neuteich sowie das sie verbindende Gebiet – bestand als teilsouveräner, selbstständiger Freistaat mit polnischen Hafenrechten unter dem Schutz des Völkerbundes von 1920 bis 1939. Nachdem das Gebiet von 1794 bis 1807 und von 1814 bis 1919 zu Preußen gehört hatte , wurde es nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg aufgrund der Bestimmungen des Versailler Vertrags 1920 vom Reichsgebiet abgetrennt und erhielt den Status eines autonomen Freistaats Danzig.
