USAir-Flug 1493 war ein planmäßiger inländischer Passagierflug am 1. Februar 1991 mit einer Boeing 737-3B7, die bei der Landung auf dem Los Angeles International Airport mit einer Swearingen SA.227AC Metro III, kurz Metroliner genannt, auf dem geplanten SkyWest-Flug 5569 kollidierte. Bei dem Zusammenstoß und dem darauf folgenden Brand starben insgesamt 34 Menschen, darunter alle zwölf Menschen an Bord des Metroliners. Der Hauptgrund für den Unfall war, neben der mangelnden Beleuchtung des Turboprop-Flugzeugs, menschliches Versagen der zuständigen Fluglotsin.
Die Boeing 737-3B7 legte ihre ersten Flugstunden am 23. August 1985, knapp fünfeinhalb Jahre vor dem Unglück, zurück: Am 13. September 1985 wurde sie an USAir geliefert, wo sie zunächst unter dem Kennzeichen N360AU flog. Drei Jahre später wurde sie in N388US umbenannt. Die Maschine besaß zwei CFM56-3B1-Triebwerke.
