The village of Clermont-sur-Berwinne is practically located halfway between Liège (24 km) and Aachen (22 km) on the Via Mosana, a route that in the Carolingian era formed the connection between the vast Liège domains in the Meuse region and Aachen, the capital of the Empire.
The coat of arms chosen by the Clermont family de Couves seems to support the hypothesis that a pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela passed along this road – repeated presence of the shell and of the figure of the pilgrim.
The church of Clermont also contains interesting signs related to the cult of Saint James the Greater, particularly the weather vane of the church.
On your right, under the pepper pot of the town hall, you can also see the coat of arms representing the apostle of Galicia.
